Joint Adventures Camp

Welcome to the Joint Adventures Camp web site!

Dates: June 21-25, 2010      Theme: "All About The Sea!"

JA Camp is a 5 day fun-filled sleep away experience for children with arthritis or other rheumatologic diseases.  Camp is held at a Rotary Club Youth Camp in Lee's Summit, Missouri, just east of Kansas City.  The facility is ideally suited to campers' needs.  The grounds are well tended and relatively flat with paved paths.  There is an unpaved nature trail with a path downhill to one of the campfire rings.  Golf carts are available to transport campers around the grounds, if necessary.  A handicap accesible pool with changing room/shower house provides a perfect place to relax and play during an active day.  The dining hall, administration building and health lodge are all near by and in close proximity to each other.  The camper cabins are rustic with single and bunk beds, battery powered lanterns for lighting and screened windows to allow for nature's own air conditioning.  The administration building and health lodge have air conditioning.

Multiple activity areas, such as the pool, a basketball court, tetherball courts, open fields, covered shelters and Outpost provide all the settings required to offer a full range of camp activities.  Traditional activities include Arts & Cratfs, sports, Bon Fires, swimming, tent camping at Outpost, and a dance.  Special activities and guests are programmed for each year.  These have included fishing, pontoon boating, jugglers, naturalists, a carnival, horseback riding and many other exciting experiences.  Hot tubs are available to eash morning and post-activity stiffness!

The camp staff is knowledgeable and experienced.  The Rotary Club provides the facilities manager, kitchen staff and lifeguards.  Camp counselors, administrative, and medical staff are volunteers who donate their time, energy and expertise, often year after year.  The camp medical staff includes a 24 hour on-site pediatric rheumatologist and at least two nurses.

Mission Statement   Joint Adventures is dedicated to providing an opportunity for children with rheumatic diseases to participate in a camp experience, so they can develop new relationships and friendships, better understand and manage their diseases, and increase their self-esteem in a medically supervised and safe environment.
